Cops nab 4 of TN gang, solve Rs 58.97 lakh heist case
Hyderabad: The three-month-long operation by sleuths of the Special Operations Team, Central Crime Station and Vanasthalipuram police resulted in the arrest of four members of the Ramjinagar gang of Tamil Nadu were accused of stealing Rs 58.97 lakh from the vehicle of a cash management agency in Vanasthalipuram.
The police recovered Rs 4.1 lakh cash, a car, and 6 kg ganja from the accused and remanded them to judicial custody on Wednesday.
The accused — Partivan Deepak, 31, Thangaraj Sathyaraj, 31, Yoga Raj, 23, and Suresh, 36, — were apprehended when they were transporting the ganja and the money in a car (TN47 AE 6491).
At about 11 am on May 7, a group of five persons stole a box containing Rs 58,97,600 by diverting the attention of the security guard by throwing some currency notes. Nine other gang members observed the movements of the police and the public.
Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said the case was registered at the Vanasthalipuram station and special teams were formed to track the gang. After analysing CCTV cameras footage, the teams identified the suspects as members of the Ramjinagar gang of Tamil Nadu.
Police found that after the heist the gang member boarded an autorickshaw and went to LB Nagar from where they dispersed to Kacheguda, Secunderabad and Afzalgunj and left the city. The teams went to Tiruchirapalli district of TN and collected information about the gang members, but they were not present there.
On reliable information that the gang members were returning to the city, police laid a trap and arrested four of the 14 suspects when they were travelling in a car at LB Nagar, Mr Bhagwat said.
“On interrogation, it was found that Deepak, the gang leader, was involved in several cases of theft by diverting the attention in TS, AP, and Delhi,” the commissioner said. Efforts to nab the absconding accused.
Gang prayed in a temple before theft
The Ramjinagar gang members who are notorious for theft by diverting attention are found to be strong believers. They pray at a temple near their village and fix a good time to leave their village to go on their looting sprees, said a Rachakonda police official.
Four gang members were arrested on Wednesday for a theft at Vanasthalipuram.
Ramjinagar has around 500 families and 18 gangs, each consisting of 15 to 20 members, whose only source of income is theft. The gangs operate in different states.
Police officials who are part of the probe said taht on May 5, the gang performed day-long prayers at a temple located in the city. After fixing a ‘muhurtham’, they left for the city in a private bus from Chennai and committed the offence on the day they arrived. The gang also killed a villager on suspicion that he had become an informant.
