Six Kerala police officers get President awards

Two other Malayali officers and an official of Lakshadweep police working in Kochi got medals for distinguished service.

Thiruvananthapuram: Six Kerala police officers and two Malayali officers with other agencies have been selected for the President's police medals for meritorious service announced on the eve of Independence day. Two other Malayali officers and an official of Lakshadweep police working in Kochi got medals for distinguished service.

P.B. Rajeev (SP, crime branch), A. Shanavaz (DySP, crime branch), E.S. Bijumon (DySP, vigilance) Rex Boby Arwin (DySP, vigilance) Vipin Chandran (inspector, State Crime Records Bureau) and I.R. Prakash (SI, vigilance) are the officials selected for the meritorious service medals.

A.K. Sunil, assistant director of Ministry of Home Affairs, now working in Thiruvananthapuram and deputy superintendent in National Investigation Agency Kochi unit V.K. Abdul Kader were also selected for the medals of meritorious service.

M Girish Kumar, head constable with Lakshadweep Police, serving in Kochi, was selected for President's police medal for distinguished service.

Police sources said that no police officer from the state received medals for distinguished service for the year as the criteria were recently changed. The service period for the medal for distinguished service has been recently enhanced from 23 to 25 years while that for meritorious service has been enhanced from 15 years to 17. Officers who received medal for meritorious service medals alone would be considered for medals for distinguished service.
