IAS officials carry rice at night

When they returned from flood hit regions they found a few workers for unload.

Kalpetta: Two young IAS officers were seen carrying sacks of rice to the store house at Collectorate here, as there were only a few employees and labourers left to handle the essentials to relief camps that reached late on Monday night.

The photograph in which state special officer for flood relief measures M.G. Rajamanickam and Manan-thavady sub collector N.S.K. Umesh are carrying sacks of essentials from various parts to be distributed to relief camps, went viral on social networking sites.

Both the officers when they returned to Collectorate after visiting the flood hit regions and relief camps found that there were only a few to unload the truck with essentials that came from elsewhere. Many of the employees had left or were resting after the day’s hectic activities.

Both Umesh and Rajamanickam started helping the staff and labourers in unloading carrying the sacks. However a friend of Rajamanickam, who preferred anonymity, said that it is nothing new to the officer who used to extend a helping hand to all in such times of need. The other day he was seen loading food material at Kochi as part of the Anbodu Kochi, a charity initiative.

Mananthavadi sub collector N.S.K. Umesh told DC that it is time everybody should act.
