Hyderabad Metro Rail roads to get barricades

HMR officials are preparing for the inauguration of services in November.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail will install a 2.5-foot-tall barricades outside the stations to prevent passengers from directly entering the roads. HMR officials are preparing for the inauguration of services in November. Inspections will be carried out throughout the coming week, with inspectors focussing on entry and exit points. On Monday, Mr N.V.S. Reddy, managing director of HMRL, and other senior officials inspected the Miyapur- LB Nagar stretch, which will be the first to be inaugurated.

Barricades will be put up at all entry and exit points, at road level, up to a distance of 200 meters on either side of each station, to ensure that people do not directly enter the road. Sources say that the service roads outside the stations will be equipped with feeder services such as taxis and autorickshaws. There will also be benches on the footpath, for commuters to sit.

With almost all Metro Rail stations being located in the middle of the road, the alighting population will have to be managed. Premises for the parking of private vehicles will be developed near the stations at Uppal, Paradise, Begumpet, Mathuranagar, Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Yousufguda, Bharatnagar, Nampally, Gandhi Bhavan, MGBS, Victoria Memorial, Naryanguda Station and Sultan Bazaar. A senior officer said, “All 64 stations will not have parking spaces. They will only be developed for 32 stations which are important junctions.”
