Elephants' relocation impossible: Kerala forest department
Kochi: The state government has submitted before Kerala High Court that the plan to restore the natural elephant corridors, especially Periya-Kottiyoor Elephant Corridor Project is moving in a positive direction.
Once it becomes successful, it will provide a lengthy passage connecting the landscape of Bandipur and Nagarhole Tiger Reserve to Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram (Nilambur) and Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and other forest landscapes of Tamil Nadu, it submitted.
The possibility of relocation of elephants to another forest areas, it said, is virtually impossible. Translocation of animals in the wild is to be determined on a case to case basis depending on the facts, circumstances and situations in each instance.
It could not have universal application situation in Africa with vast expanses of grasslands, forest plains and other areas with minimal presence of human settlement.
