Parents Unable To Draw Amma Vodi Amounts

ANANTAPUR: Many parents are unable to withdraw the Amma Vodi amounts that the state government has deposited into their accounts.

This is because the parents had earlier borrowed money from private financiers as personal loans or to buy electronic goods. At the time, they had signed documents under which the private financiers will have the first claim on whatever amounts are deposited in the parent’s accounts.

However, when the parents signed the documents, they did not know about these aspects. Now, they are arguing with the executives of banks why they cannot withdraw the amounts deposited in their own accounts.

A senior bank official from a government bank in Sainagar area of Anantapur said a mother had obtained a TV using funds from a private finance company. When she tried to withdraw Amma Vodi amount through ATM and failed, she personally visited the bank. She then realised that the financier had put a restriction on her account.

“Even though we have clearly informed parents about the situation, several parents are still getting angry with us,” another bank official said.
