KRISHNAGIRI: A man believed to be in his thirties was badly hurt after the battery in his smart phone exploded when he was using the device on Sunday.
Arumugam was heading towards Hosur on a two-wheeler from Puliarasi village near Shoolagiri on the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway.
After crossing Shoolagiri, he used his smart phone to answer an incoming call from his friend. Even as he began speaking, the device exploded and he fell down from the bike. Arumugam sustained multiple injuries which include minor burns caused because of the explosion.
Passers-by transported Arumugan first to a private hospital in Shoolagiri. He was then shifted to the government hospital in Krishnagiri. He is said to be out of danger.
It is believed that the smart phone might have exploded either due to heat or a fault in the device. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
The incident has sent shock waves in this district.
