Thiruvananthapuram: 4 in custody for campus stabbing
Thiruvananthapuram: The police has issued a lookout notice against eight SFI activists accused in the attack on Akhil Chandran, SFI member and University College student.
Four persons have been arrested in connection with the case. University SFI unit committee member Ijab of Nemom, who was taken into custody earlier, was arrested on Sunday morning.
He is one of the 30 arraigned in the incident. Another three accused — Aromal, Adwaith and Adhil —were nabbed from Thiruvananthapuram railway station. Their arrest was recorded in the evening.
However, the police have failed to arrest the main culprits, including Sivarenjith, SFI unit president, and Naseem.
The houses of the accused and their relatives were raided by the police. The relatives of Sivarenjith attacked mediapersons while they were taking the visuals of the raid on his house.
The police have reportedly recovered unwritten answer scripts of the university examinations from the home of Sivarenjith. It is suspected that they were stored for examination malpractices. The police conducted a search in the house of Nanda Kishore of Peyad...
based on the statement that outsiders had attacked Akhil.
Earlier, cases were registered against Sivarenjith, Nazeem, Amar, Adwaith, Aadil, Aaromal, Ibrahim and 30 others. The students alleged that police were trying to save Nazeem and Sivarenjith who were included in the PSC rank list for selection of civil police officers. However, the CPM district leaders have denied it.
Akhil’s father Chandran said that his son was stabbed by Sivarenjith after Nazeen and his friends caught hold of him following a clash over singing in the canteen on Friday. Akhil is in the intensive care unit of the Medical College Hospital. The police could not record his statement.
Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has questioned the inclusion of Naseem and Sivarenjith in the police rank list. He also asked how they got University College as the examination centre.
The PSC has denied the allegation of malpractices and promised to look into the charges.
