Kochi: No clue still on gold robbery

Three men barged into jewellery shop wielding gun, knives.

Kozhikode: Police is still groping in the dark over the identity of the two persons who had escaped with 12 sovereigns of gold from Shadi Gold Jewellery at Koduvally towards 7:30 pm on Saturday. Though one person was held by the employees of the jewellery after a scuffle, he is presently hospitalised and is unconscious, police said.

The incident occur-red when the employees of jewellery were taking stock of the gold before the closing of the shop. The shutters were down half when three persons one with a revolver and two others wielding knives entered the shop and at gun point forced employees to hand over gold to them. In a scuffle that followed, the employees had managed to catch one of the culprits while two others escaped with the gold. Though there were attempts to nab them it failed.

The culprit in custody is suspected to be a migrant. As the person was seriously injured in the scuffle he has been admitted at Medical College Hospital, police said. He is still unconscious and attempts to elicit information from him failed, police said.

Meanwhile the gold merchants of Koduvally expressed their concern over increasing number of theft cases in the town in the recent past. In many incidents the migrant gangsters were the culprits.
