Hyderabad: Activist requests SHRC for action to curb violence against women

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mr Ch Rahul, who filed the petition, said the Oyo franchise and associated lodges provide rooms to unmarried couples.

Hyderabad: Days after a man stabbed his girlfriend and attempted to commit suicide, a social activist has approached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on the matter.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mr Ch Rahul, who filed the petition, said the Oyo franchise and associated lodges provide rooms to unmarried couples. “There is no law against allowing unmarried couple in hotels. However, in the long run it is going to affect us,” he said.

“Every day we can see the increase in violence against women. I feel that by allowing unmarried couple into hotel rooms without restriction the cases of violence against women might increase.”

He requested the commission to take actions.
