BMTC bus collides with cab, 1 dead, 14 injured

There were around 25 passengers in the bus. After colliding with the car, the bus hit a roadside tree and stopped.

Bengaluru: Two people died on spot in separate road accidents since Friday in Whitefield and Jalahalli traffic police station limits. In the first incident a 36-year-old cab driver died and around 14 passengers in a BMTC bus sustained minor injuries, after the bus rammed into a car and later hit a roadside tree near Huralichikkanahalli in Jalahalli traffic police station limits on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Jagadish alias Jagga, a resident of Somashettihalli. The bus driver, Nagesh, 45, a resident of Hesaraghatta, also sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

According to the police the accident happened around 11:30 am while the bus was heading towards Hesaraghatta from Majestic. The bus belonged to IX depot and there were around 25 passengers in it.

Police said had the bus not stopped after hitting the tree, there would have been more casualties, as there was a small eatery next to it. Around 20 people were present near the eatery when the accident took place. The Jalahalli traffic police have registered a case and are investigating.

Biker run over
In the second incident, a 30-year-old biker died on spot after being knocked down by a speeding car in Whitefield on Friday. The deceased has been identified as K. Manjunath, a resident of Ramagondanahalli and hailing from Tumakuru. He was working as a vegetable delivery boy.

According to the police the incident happened around 4:50 pm near Tubarahalli junction, when Manjunath was returning home after work. He had sustained severe head injuries and died on the way to hospital. The Whitefield traffic police have registered a case and arrested the driver, Vijaya Kumar, a private company employee and a resident of Seegehalli.
