Tamil Nadu still attracts investments: Thangamani

Tamil Nadu ranked at the bottom of the list and most industries prefer neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Chennai: Debunking claims that Tamil Nadu has ranked at the bottom of the states in ease of doing business, the AIADMK Government on Friday accused neighbouring states of “fudging data” to get top rankings in surveys done by government organisations and private agencies.

Responding to questions by Leader of Opposition M K Stalin who quoted Niti Ayog CEO Amitabh Kant as saying that Tamil Nadu had ranked low in attracting investments, Electricity Minister P Thangamani said the state continues to seek investments and claimed no industry has left Tamil Nadu.

“(Other) states are fudging data with the NITI Ayog. Our state is preferred by many industries and no firm or company has left Tamil Nadu. And we continue to attract investments since we have all the infrastructure development,” Mr Thangamani said.

Mr Stalin had alleged that Mr Kant, while speaking at the event where Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan was present, said Tamil Nadu ranked at the bottom of the list and most industries prefer neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

“We have the maximum number of car factories and four international airports in the state also pushes our position. Even in tourism, we are the number one,” he said.
