Tamil Nadu: Educationists urge government to press for Neet exemption
Chennai: Educationists demanding for Neet exemption for the state stand vindicated as the Madras high court quashed the government order allocating 85 per cent of seats to the state board students in medical admission.
“The Madras high court has clearly stated that only the legislation can create the level playing field. Our stand of getting the President’s assent for Neet bills is vindicated by this judgement. Any appeal against this order will not stand,” said P.B. Prince Gajendrababu, general secretary, State Platform for Common School System.
“Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami should take all the Tamil Nadu MPs to Delhi and meet Prime Minister Modi to get the President’s assent for the Neet bills. The central government cannot withhold the state legislation and it is against the provisions of the Constitution,” he said.
“The Central government has to forward the two bills. Then it’s up to the President to seek the legal opinion or ask for clarification,” he argued.
Senior educationist S.S. Rajagopalan said getting the President’s assent to he Neet bills alone can be the solution to the problem.
He also said, “The state government should argue in the courts that the state medical colleges are founded by people’s fund. Therefore, the state is entitled to protect the rights of its people.”
“The state government is having time till August 31 for medical admission. It should urge the central government for Neet exemption,” he said.
He also urged the state government to enact a new law for super speciality courses.Educationist V.Vasanthidevi said apart from the ruling party all the parties are asking for the Neet exemption.
“The state government should not sit silently after passing the Neet bills. It should lead the people’s resistance against Neet and get the exemption.”
