Tamil Nadu: E-villages named after Jayalalithaa soon
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government will establish “e-villages” named after former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister K. Palaniswami said on Fridayday. "One village will be selected from every district which will be made Amma E-village and services like wifi hotspot and smart street lighting will be provided," he said.
Digital revolution: Tamil Nadu to get 32 Amma e-villages
After Amma water, salt, cement, canteen and pharmacy, it is the turn of Amma e-villages. One village in all 32 districts of Tamil Nadu will be developed as model villages that would boast of urban-like facilities such as wifi hotspot, smart lighting, tele-education and tele-medicine services. To be known as Amma e-villages, the project will allow villagers to access facilities currently enjoyed only by those living in urban areas. Making a statement under Rule 110 in the state Assembly, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami also announced that all 12,524 village panchayats in the state will be brought under optical fibre network to ensure that everyone enjoys the fruits of digital revolution.
He also announced allotment of Rs 437 crore for the third stage of Tamil Nadu State Wide Area Network (TNSWAN) that will cover 2017-2022 period.
"One village in every district will be chosen as Amma e-villages. The villages will be provided with WiFi hotspot, smart lighting and facilities to access tele-education and tele-medicine. The project cost will borne by the Tamil Nadu Cable TV from its corporate social responsibility fund," Palaniswami said.
The Chief Minister said the project will help the government take technology to the grassroots and provide world-class education and medical facilities to rural people.
