Kidnap case: Karnataka High Court bail to film director

Madan had directed the recently released Kannada movie Eradu Kanasu, which had not fared well at the box office.

Bengaluru: The High Court on Friday granted bail to a movie director and four others, who are accused of kidnapping a publicist over a financial dispute.

The court allowed petitions of the accused, A. Madan, Chalapathi, Praveen Kumar, Murthy, and Mohan, while imposing certain conditions including to assist with the investigation and not to hamper the evidence and threaten witnesses in the case.

They were arrested following charges of kidnapping Paramesh, 29, a resident of Shivanahalli in Basaveshwaranagar, who owns Ravi Akshaya Advertising, an agency involved in movie promotions. Madan had directed the recently released Kannada movie Eradu Kanasu, which had not fared well at the box office.

Madan, who is said to have invested some money in the movie, was upset that the film was not promoted aggressively. As Paramesh was in charge of publicity and he was paid Rs 16.3 lakh, Madan started blaming Paramesh that he did not plan the promotions properly and asked him to return Rs 8 lakh. Paramesh, in turn, started avoiding Madan.
