S. Rahul paid Rs 2,710 in May last year for an internet connection. But after taking the money, Act Fibernet did not set up the connection.

Hyderabad: Act Fibernet, a well-known internet service provider in the city, was ordered by the Hyderabad District Consumer Forum-III to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to a complainant, for not providing internet connection even after taking full payment and promising the service.

The complainant, Mr S. Rahul, a jewellery and gems trader from Secunderabad, said he was approached by Act Fibernet in May last year and offered an internet connection for a certain price. Believing they would provide him with a connection that had good speed, he paid them Rs 2,710. But after taking the money, Act Fibernet did not set up the connection.

Mr Rahul repeatedly requested the company for an internet connection but all his appeals were in vain. He then lodged a complaint with the consumer forum and provided evidence of the company’s inaction.

The forum examined the proof and observed, “The documentary evidence goes to prove that there was deficiency of service on the part of the opposite party, in as much as it failed to provide internet connection in spite of receiving necessary charges.”

The complainant said that his business had suffered a loss of Rs 9.75 lakh because of the delay that occurred due to lack of internet.

He added he had to bear additional stress as the inconvenienced clients were vociferous about their annoyance.

The forum said that there was gross deficiency of service by ACT Fibernet and asked them to pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation to Mr Rahul.
