Proclamation notice slapped on don Sridhar Dhanapal
Chennai: Putting the legal procedures in motion to make sure that TN police could zero in on the most wanted land Mafia boss, Sridhar Dhanapal, now operating from Dubai, the Kancheepuram judicial magistrate has issued a proclamation notice against him. The 'don' will be declared as a proclaimed offender if he fails to appear in the court on or before August 1, police sources said.
The present proclamation has been issued for the murder of Narayanan he had committed in 2012. "Accused Sridhar has been evading trial in the court. The proclamation order directs him to appear before the magistrate on or before August 1," said the order. If he fails to present himself before the court he will be declared as a proclaimed offender. Once a suspect is declared so, authorities can attach his properties. Such an act is expected to put lot of pressure on the accused to present himself before the court on the said date to avoid harsh proceedings which may hit him hard.
Apart from the Kancheepuram police, the enforcement directorate, which has registered a money laundering case against the land Mafia boss Sridhar, is also looking for him. Will the procedure bring him back to TN or will it end up like the case of India's most wanted don, Dawood Ibrahim, who was once settled in Dubai? Indian authorities could not bring back Dawood, now believed to be hiding in Pakistan, to India. Only the time will tell.
