Hyderabad: Two women arrested for cheating businessman
Hyderabad: CCTV footage helped police nab two women who had allegedly cheated a city businessman using Bonalu as a pretext. Cops also recovered a sum of Rs 2 lakh from the duo.
According to reports, the two women approached the residence of businessman Shiva Ramireddy on Monday morning claiming they were celebrating Bonalu at a temple nearby. They then sought rice and jiggery for a puja.
But when Ramireddy’s wife went into the house to get the materials, the two women followed her in and then — after noticing their sick daughter and troubled financial conditions — said they could help ward off “an evil eye”. Unfortunately, the wife believed the two.
"The two women suggested a puja be performed at home. They promised to solve the family’s problems and the victims believed them,” said Madhapur ACP M. Ramana Kumar.
Later, the two women told the couple to put all the money they have at home into the puja. And when the couple brought Rs 76,000, wrapped in cloth, they were told to keep the money on a shelf and open the cloth only after they leave.
“But when the couple removed the cloth, they found the cash missing,” the ACP added. Police then tracked the duo using CCTV footage.
R. Kavitha, 38, and R, Deshamma 25, both beggars, were nabbed from Jubilee Bus Station, on Thursday. Police also found that both have been involved in previous offences and recovered Rs 2 lakh from them.
