GGH docs perform surgery on 15-month-old for black fungus
KAKINADA: For the first time in the country, surgery for mucormycosis known as black fungus. was performed on a 15-month-old boy Anisetti Janaki Nandan of Penugonda village in West Godavari district successfully by the doctors of the Government General Hospital in Kakinada Recently and he was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
The hospital special nodal officer Surya Pravin, along with GGH superintendent Dr R. Mahalakshmi, told the media here that the doctors had performed the surgery with great expertise and the boy recovered completely and was discharged from the hospital.
He said performing surgery on a 15-month-old boy was the first time in the country. He greeted the hospital superintendent, anaesthetists, paediatrician, ENT experts, doctors, paramedical staff and others who participated in the surgery.
He expressed confidence that the GGH would render the best services in future also. He said that 128 patients were getting treatment for black fungus in the GGH at present and there was no shortage of medicines and the patients were being given better treatment. He said that 64 patients were discharged from the hospital after getting treatment.
The boy’s parents felicitated the superintendent of the hospital and the doctors with garlands for performing surgery and giving better treatment to their boy.
