Kochi: Missing CI’s wife alleges harassment

She also received a text message from his personal phone number a few minutes later that he was leaving and told her not to worry.

Kochi: Ernakulam central station circle inspector V.S. Navas, who went missing on Thursday morning, faced mental pressure from his superior officer, said Navas’ wife here on Friday. She also alleged that Navas was pressurised by the officer to register fake cases against people several times.

Meanwhile, a probe team led by Kochi city deputy commissioner of police G. Poonguzhali quizzed Ernakulam assistant commissioner of police S. Suresh following the complaint lodged by the family of Navas.

Navas’ wife said that he had a heated exchange with Suresh over the wireless for not picking up the phone during a roll call at 11 pm on Wednesday. “He looked so upset when he reached home around 5 am. He said he had some issues with the superior and told me not to ask anything for some time. He sat alone in front of the TV for a few minutes and then disappeared,” she said.

She also received a text message from his personal phone number a few minutes later that he was leaving and told her not to worry. “I tried to call him immediately after...reading the message but the phone was switched off,” she said.

A complaint was filed at the south police station and later before the Commissioner of Police, Kochi city. But she said that no one called her back for a while until she approached them personally. “They contacted me with a CCTV picture at Kayamkulam showing a person suspected to be my husband,” she said.

The family has also given a complaint to the Chief Minister in this regard. The police has formed separate teams in each district to trace Navas.
