SRINAGAR: Kashmiri separatists have welcomed the United Nations first ever human rights report on Kashmir saying it was long overdue and that the UN has a moral obligation towards the people of the state divided between India and Pakistan. They also termed as “unfortunate” the rejection of the report by the Indian government.
Separatist leader and Kashmir’s chief Muslim cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said, “We welcome it although we do feel that the UN should have long ago.” Independent MLA and leader of regional Awami Itehad Party Engineer Rashid while welcoming the report asked asked all the parties concerned to introspect and uphold the human rights of people of J&K.
