Ooty to get new botanical garden on 80 acres
Chennai: Taking into account the increasing footfalls to the botanical garden in Ooty, all-time popular hill resort of Tamil Nadu, the state government has announced to ensure an added attraction by establishing another botanical garden on 80 acres land.
The new botanical garden will be established on 80 acre land at the 'Queen of Hill Stations - Udhagamandalam (Ooty) in Nilgiris district. The 200th year Evergreen Grassland will be set up at the hill station at a cost of '10 crore, CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami informed the Assembly on Thursday. Making a statement under Rule 110 in the Assembly House, the CM said the new botanical garden would be established considering the huge crowd visiting the existing garden. Considering that over ten lakh people visit the Rose park in Ooty every year, there was lack of space for parking. Hence, to address this problem, a parking space to accommodate 500 vehicles would be established at a cost of '3 crore, Palaniswami said.
