Deluge of woes in Mangaluru after rain, RV Deshpande, UT Khader rush to the rescue

Mangaluru: Revenue Minister R.V. Deshpande on Thursday reviewed the relief measures being taken up by the administration round rain-hit Mangaluru. He and urban

development and housing minister U.T. Khader spoke to the people and listened to their demands. They visited Bejai Anegundi where they paid a relief of Rs 1 lakh each to two families. Later they went to a hospital and spoke to a woman and child who were injured during the rains. The ministers also reviewed the measures taken to prevent sea erosion at Uchila near Ullal.

Later, Mr Deshpande told reporters that the government has provided Rs 3 crore each to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from the calamity relief fund. He said the DK DC now has Rs 6.09 crore and Udupi DC has Rs 5.51 crore for calamity relief work. According to the minister, since April, about seven have lost their lives due to heavy rains in DK district.
