Telangana: Malavath Poorna now in fight for farm land

The government had allotted her 5 acres of agricultural land and a 300-sq yard plot to build a house.

Hyderabad: Malavath Poorna, the youngest girl in the world to summit Mount Everest, is struggling to get her piece of land awarded to her by the government.

The government had allotted her 5 acres of agricultural land and a 300-sq yard plot to build a house, both in her native undivided Nizamabad district. Three years thence Poorna — on whom a film has been made — and her family are trying to get the farm.

Her father Malavath Devidas said, “There was no 5-acre parcel of government land available in our native Sirikonda mandal. Officials identified land in Indalwai-Tirmanpally but a section of locals objected. They came in large numbers to confront us when we went to see the land."

Nizamabad RDO Vinod Kumar said that the matter had been resolved as they have convinced the Tirmanpally villagers.

“We sought police help too to settle the matter amicably. Actually the villagers wanted the government land for community needs instead of allotment to an individual”, he said.
