Karnataka: 13 lose out due to revaluation

One student Shrikala (name changed) never imagined she would have to appear for the examination again next year.

Bengaluru: Applying for revaluation of answer scripts can prove costly as some PU students discovered on Tuesday. One student Shrikala (name changed) never imagined she would have to appear for the examination again next year when she applied for revaluation of her biology answer script as she had scored 35 in it in her II PUC final examination.

Afraid of losing out on a professional seat through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), she decided to take the gamble.

But instead of the 10 more marks she expected, she lost four marks and now will have to wait for a year more to appear for the re-examination.

"The last date to apply for the supplementary examination has already gone by. So my decision has boomeranged," she lamented after checking her revaluation results on Tuesday.

She is not alone in her misery as another student, Rakshitha , who got 38 marks in chemistry in the II PU examination, saw her marks fall to 29 after reevaluation.

And now she too will be forced her to appear for the examination next year. Also take a student, Manish Karnan, who scored 39 in mathematics in the first valuation and 33 in the reevaluation.

Ask an officer of the state Pre University Department and he says of the students, who had applied for revaluation, changes were made in the case of 2,179. "But many of them will lose a precious year as their marks slipped below the pass mark of 35. I don't know what made them apply for the revaluation. Of the 14,322 answer scripts received for revaluation, no changes were reported in 12,143," he adds.
