Hyderabad: Water board digs up a mess in Anand Bagh

Bapuji Nagar, Teachers' Colony and East Marredpally also have roads that have been dug up but are not filled up and evened.

Hyderabad: Despite the ban on digging of roads during the monsoons, work continues in full scale by the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply at Anand Bagh, Safilguda. Water pipes are being laid in the area and the construction material including the pipes lies in the centre of the road. There are no signboards to warn commuters on the road and at night, in the rains, this is a potential disaster zone. The pipe laying work was started in May but doesn't look like it will be finished anytime soon. Other areas in the city are also facing similar issues. Bapuji Nagar, Teachers’ Colony and East Marredpally also have roads that have been dug up but are not filled up and evened. As such, all these areas are water logging hotspots during the monsoons.

Mr D. Ram Chandra Reddy Chief General Manager of HMWS said, “Action will be taken as soon as possible and we will make sure that the pipes are removed from the road”.

But places like VSR Enclave, Anand Bagh need urgent attention as the situation here is really bad. Apart from the rainwater that collects and stagnates, the drains that haven’t been cleaned also overflow and spill over onto the roads and into the the residents homes.

Mr Suresh, a resident said, “We are unable to bear the smell that emit from the stagnant water. It is also a huge health hazard and may lead to malaria and other outbreaks. There are no signboards put up here either causing a huge problem to the passers-by and residents in this area.”
