Kollam: A year after the court complex blast, the police is yet to file a charge sheet. The NIA had earlier arrested Base Movement activists in connection with the incident. According to its charge sheet in the Mysore blast, they had confessed to the act, to avenge the "encounter killing" of Ishrat Jahan in Gujarat.
Ms Jahan, a Mumbai resident, and Pranesh Pillai, a Keralite, along with two others were murdered in a joint operation led by Ahmedabad Crime Branch and the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau.
Abbas Ali (27), Shamsoon Karim Raja (22), Dawood Sulaiman (22) and Shamsudeen (23), all from Madurai, were arrested by the NIA in connection with the Kollam court complex blast.
The Police found Raja visited here a week before the blast, to take visuals on his mobile phone. He then reached Madurai to conspire with others. On June 15, Karim Raja reached Kollam in a KSRTC bus from Tenkasi and returned after its execution.
After this, Raja reached Kollam on September 12, the day on which the court complex blast in Nellore in Hyderabad took place. The investigation team earlier found that Raja had recharged his phone from a shop in Kottamukku on September 12. According to the police, all the accused are workers of ‘Base Movement’, but could not spot any Kerala links with the blast.
It had similarities with the one at the Malappuram court complex on November 1, which exposed the failure of security agencies in preventing the chances its repeat. It had happened in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, on April 7, and Mysore on August 1.
An improvised electronic device (IED) had exploded at the parking area of the court complex on the collectorate campus here, leaving a person injured. The bomb was planted under a jeep belonging to the labour department. It exploded with loud noise and fumes.
