Worry over loss of 650 medical seats in Andhra Pradesh and telangana

MCI finds faults with private colleges.

Hyderabad: With the Medical Council of India objecting to private medical colleges functioning with less staff and without proper infrastructure, 450 seats in Andhra Pradesh and 200 seats in Telangana are lost for the year 2016-17.
Of these, 250 seats are in general category in AP and 100 in TS where merit holders will lose out.

Director of Health and Medical Education of Andhra Pradesh (academic) Dr K. Babji said, “We are concerned as many medical students will lose out because of this cancellation. There will be a lot of pressure on government colleges. Also, these seats are lost to aspiring students, which is a loss to the state. So far, private medical colleges have not approached us but it is a matter of concern.”

The loss of seats is going to create a huge impact on the state governments and their policies towards education. Meanwhile private medical colleges have decided to approach both state governments and ask them to resolve the issue.

A senior college principal said, “MCI inspectors have acted in an arbitrary manner as they are not willing to give any time to private colleges to improve infrastructure. Last year, they took an undertaking from the government and let them (government colleges) off. Why can’t the same be done for us?”
