UP polls 2017: Varun Gandhi skips BJP meet called by Amit Shah
Lucknow: The BJP in Uttar Pradesh has issued show cause notices to BJP workers who put up posters of party MP Varun Gandhi in Allahabad, promoting him as a chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh.
Though the names of two party workers who had been issued notices was not known, party sources confirmed that notices had been issued.
Meanwhile, Varun Gandhi reportedly skipped a meeting called by party president Amit Shah on Monday evening. Over 65 of the 71 party MPs attended the meeting.
Earlier, posters of Mr Gandhi in Allahabad had become the talk of the town during the recently concluded BJP national executive. Posters of Mr Gandhi, sources said, even outnumbered the posters welcoming PM.
Mr Shah also expressed his displeasure at the fact that supporters of Mr Gandhi shouted slogans for their leaders at the main entrance of the meeting venue.
Sources said that a large number of Mr Gandhi’s supporters from his constituency Sultanpur had come to Allahabad for the party event.
Meanwhile, a senior party leader in Lucknow said that there was nothing objectionable in putting up posters of a leader and issuing notices on this issue was a new trend in the party.
“It is common in every political party that supporters put up posters of their leaders. How can you take action on this ground unless the posters have objectionable content,” the leader asked.
