Patna: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Bihar education scam was in for a shock late on Monday when one of the apprehended suspects revealed the price tag for a fake higher secondary degree -- Rs 5 lakhs, with no requirement to attend the exam or even enroll in a college.

The man was arrested during a raid from the Ganga Devi Mahila College in the city, reports said adding that a police team has been sent to Bihar’s Aurangabad district to probe the case further following the tip-off.

An FIR was filed with regards to the case last week after the arrest of the main accused Baccha Rai, the secretary-cum Principal of Bishun Rai College in Vaishali district from where Arts and Science toppers Ruby Rai and Saurabh Shrestha belonged to respectively.

The third ranker in the Science stream Rahul Kumar, whose result has been cancelled by the board along with that of first rank holder from the same stream, Saurabh Shrestha, also hailed from Bishun Rai College.

The Bihar State Education Board chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh who was forced to resign following evidences of his ‘connivance’ in the scandal is absconding.

The police however is yet to move the court to procure an arrest warrant against Lalkeshwar Prasad and his wife, former JD(U) MLA Usha Sinha, who is also an accused.

The SIT has also failed to demand a police remand of Bishun Rai.

The probe has indicated that Bachha Rai was a key player in the case with the help of Bihar School Examination Board, police said.
