Seven injured, paddy damaged in sudden downpour

The farmers who brought paddy to the IKP centres in Mamidalapalli and Kanagarthi villages were shocked by the unexpected rains

SIRCILLA: Unexpected heavy rains with strong gales lashed Konaraopet mandal in Sircilla district on Saturday wreaking havoc at IKP centres and injuring seven farmers. The rains along with thunderstorms led to huge property damages in the district.

Though the weather was dry and hot in the morning, all of a sudden it changed and rained heavily with thunderstorms mainly in Kanagarthi and Mamidalapalli villages of Konaraopet mandal.

The farmers who brought paddy to the IKP centres in Mamidalapalli and Kanagarthi villages were shocked by the unexpected rains. When the farmers were trying to cover their produce which was dried and in the open areas, suddenly thunderstorms struck at the IKP centres and injured five in Mamidalapalli and two in Kanagarthi villages.

The injured farmers were identified as Maru Mohan Reddy, Pannal Hanumanthulu, Annadi Yellareddy, Maru Mallavva, Pannala Devi of Mamidalapalli village and Dodda Shantavva and Mokalla Tirupati Reddy of Kanagarthi village.

The injured farmers were shifted to a private hospital in the temple town of Vemulawada for treatment. Five houses were partially damaged in the heavy rains and strong gales in Kanagarthi village. The houses of Putta Renavva, Mothkupalli Renuka, Mothkupalli Balaiah, Adem Narasimha Reddy and Aandem Malla Reddy were damaged.

Meanwhile, district collector Anurag Jayanti ordered district medical and health officer (DM&HO) Dr. Suman Mohan Rao to visit the hospital and make sure that the farmers were provided with emergency medical services.

Receiving the orders, Dr. Suman Mohan Rao visited the hospital and inspected the medical services provided to the injured farmers and gave required suggestions to the health officials.
