TSPCB continues to get garbage burning plaints

The grievances cell of TSPCB has been receiving constant complaints of burning of garbage, dried leaves and water hyacinth near water bodies.

Hyderabad: Despite the ban on burning of garbage, it continues unabated in the city and that is one of the causes for high levels of PM 10 and PM 2.5 in the air, stated the Telangana State Pollution Control Board.

The grievances cell of TSPCB has been receiving constant complaints of burning of garbage, dried leaves and water hyacinth near water bodies. The burning is done early in the morning and even late at night, stated the officials on condition of anonymity. The air quality monitoring vans have recorded high levels in the residential areas of Sanathnagar, Balanagar, Kukatpally, Madhapur, Langar Houz, Chikadapally, HCU and Icrisat.

A senior officer explained, “The night burning is not recorded but if there is no wind movement, the early morning levels in residential colonies are showing high levels. While the van does not cover many residential areas, we have data only from those places where the vans are stationed. The burning of garbage is continuing and it is important that people are made aware of the harm that it causes.”

While the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation states that it has sensitised its sanitary workers not to burn dried leaves and collect all the garbage, garbage have been left aside or collected in an open area for burning ultimately many a times.
