Mahatma Gandhi’s killer is terrorist, Asaduddin Owaisi backs Kamal Haasan

Owaisi said on Tuesday that such a person will be called a terrorist or an assassin.

Hyderabad: What should one call the person who killed the Father of the Nation, asked Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of the Majlis-e-Ittihadul Muslimeen (MIM) reacting to the statement of actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan who is being targeted by the BJP for saying that the first terrorist of independent India was a Hindu, meaning Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi.

Mr Owaisi said on Tuesday that such a person will be called a terrorist or an assassin. “All those who were tried and proved to be guilty in the Kapur commission report were conspirators and they will be called terrorist only,” he said.

He questioned whether the assassination of the Father of the Nation must be remembered or must it be forgotten.

Intolerance to views some people hold is becoming a major concern. The same intolerance is also being witnessed in other states like West Bengal, he said. “People who have talked against Modi and Bal Thackeray have been sent to jail. The Supreme Court has said that they can apologise and must be let off,” Mr Owaisi said. He also questioned the right of a Canadian citizen to go onto INS Virat and asked how that was tolerated by the government.
