Discount offer in bars to voters sparks row in Madhya Pradesh

The officer of local excise department in Indore had made the controversial offer to increase voting in the polls.

Bhopal: An announcement by an officer of the state excise department in Indore in Madhya Pradesh offering discounts in bars and restaurants in the city to the electorate for voting in the May 19 polls in Indore Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday sparked a political row.

The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took strong exception to the offer saying that it was an desperate attempt by the ruling Congress to lure voters with liquor.

The party decided to draw attention of the Election Commission to the offer.
