Supreme Court gives liberty to AP JAC on division plea

The bench said it was granting liberty to implead in the pending matter.

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Monday granted liberty to the AP Joint Action Committee (APJAC) to implead as a party in a petition pending before it seeking to direct the Centre to implement the assurance given by the Prime Minister in the Rajya Sabha and Parliament during the debate on the AP Reorganisation Bill.

The two-member bench comprising Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan was disposing of a PIL by APJAC representatives Sunkara Krishna Murthy and Ravinder Reddy. The petition had sought a direction to the Centre to implement six assurances made in the Rajya Sabha including special status to AP, completion of Polavaram Project by 2018, filling up the financial deficit and railway zone with headquarters at Visakhapatnam.

When the bench asked why so many people were filing matters on the AP Reorganisation issue, Mr K. Sravan Kumar, advocate for the petitioners, replied that earlier petiti-on was filed by Mr P. Sud-hakar Reddy and the present petition was different. He submitted that the APJAC petition was on different issues pertaining to AP. The bench said it was granting liberty to implead in the pending matter.
