Hyderabad: A video showing MIM Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala leading a mob into a police station and beating up a rape accused has gone viral.
“Even a public representative cannot barge into the police station and assault the accused, whatever may be the charges against him as it is a violation of the rules and the rights of the accused,” said senior advocate A. Chandrashekar.
After the attempted rape on Friday evening at Wahed nagar, Old Malakpet, under Chaderghat police station limits, the news spread fast and a huge number of people gathered at the spot and caught the suspect.
He was initially beaten up by the public and later handed over to the police.
Five personnel were on duty at the police station when around 10.30 pm the same night, Mr Balala, accompanied by more than 200 persons from the area entered the police station, went up to the detained accused and rained fist blows on him, after which his associates did the same.
The MLA wanted to know why the accused was not in the lock-up.
