TN Health minister aide suicide: CB-CID begins probe
Chennai: A CB-CID team headed by DSP Sathyamoorthy on Sunday begin its probe into the suicide of KR Subramanian, a Namakkal based civil contractor, who was a close aide of health minister Dr C.Vijayabhaskar.
The officer had collected case details from the local police on Saturday evening a day after the police headquarters transferred the case to CB-CID whose team visited the Subramanian's house in Namakkal on Sunday and also the farm where he committed suicide by consuming pesticide.
The state police had decided to transfer the case to CB-CID after the contents of 4-page suicide note written by Subramanian were published in newspapers. Subramanaiamn (59), a contractor of civil construction work who ran Abirami Engineering Construction & Co, died in his coconut farm last Monday morning.
It may be recalled that Income-Tax sleuths raided his house in Namakkal on April 7 in the series of raids in which the minister's house was also searched. As contractor, Subramanian had carried out works of government buildings funded by the state health ministry.
It is possible the CB-CID may conduct enquiries with the people whose names appeared in the note left behind by the deceased contractor. The suicide note written by Subramanian suggested that he decided to end his life because of pressure from an I-T official in the rank of deputy director, who wanted him to accept that he had carried out money transactions as a benami of the minister.
The officer, when questioning him on April 27 in Chennai, had reportedly wanted him to accept all that he said and threatened to finish him if he refused to tow his line, Subramanian said in the note. “All this forced me to decide to end my life,” he said in his letter.
Subramanian had also said that a former AIADMK minister, an IAS and an IPS besides some other contractors were giving him trouble. The I-T department had carried out raids in over 35 locations, including the premises of health minister, actor turned politician Sarath Kumar, Dr MGR University vice chancellor on April 7. At the time of raids, Subramanian was away in Switzerland.
