Karnataka: What are you waiting for Mr Minister?

Officials claim valuation work completed, but Kimmane wants results only in the third week of May.

Bengaluru: Why this abnormal delay in announcing the SSLC and II PUC final examination results, though the valuation work has been completed?

This is the question that is haunting lakhs of students who appeared for the two examinations this year. Even officials at the two departments are clueless as to why the results are being delayed. Sources, however, said that the SSLC and II PUC results will come out only in the third week of May.

“SSLC results will be announced first, and then the II PUC results. After both the results, the CET ranking will be declared,” an officer said. But officials still cannot answer why there is a delay despite the work being completed. They only point fingers at Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Rathnakar.

Officials, who wished not to be identified, said that the minister does not want hype around the results. “It all started when a section of the media started guessing on the date of announcement of results. But the minister has made it clear in the beginning that he would not buckle under pressure form the media. He wants the results only in the third week of May and we are waiting,” said an officer, admitting that all the work related to valuation work has been completed.

“KSEEB board members met on Friday. Normally, the board takes the decision on the date of announcement of results, but on Friday it did not take any decision. Instead, the members wanted to wait for directions from the minister. It is a clear indication that the minister’s office will decide on the date. The minister’s troubled relationship with the media is also one of the reasons for the delay,” he said.

But the prolonged wait has made students and their parents anxious. “Many PU colleges have already started the admission process. Delay in results will create problems in finalising the colleges. If the valuation work is complete, why should KSEEB delay the results,” asked Shashank Kumar, an SSLC student.
