Urdu varsity students get notice in 2-year-old case
Hyderabad: Students from Maulana Azad National Urdu University who were booked under various charges for protests two years ago received notice from the Cyberabad Police to appear for inquiry. The students termed it harassing for bringing up the case after such a long time and even when some students have already passed out of the University. Meanwhile, police said that the notices were issued as a part of the investigation and has nothing to do with the college issues.
In the month of October 2016, students of the University protested demanding the resignation of the then chief warden Professor Aziz Banu and proctor Professor Abdul Wahid.
The students cited the shortage of hostels and the delay in opening the hostel which was complete, as a cause for seeking their resignations. They also protested against the rule that prevents girl students from leaving the hostel after 7 pm and a circular that stated that boys should not wear shorts or lungis outside the hostel.
After holding a series of talks with the Vice Chancellor and other officials, the protests were called off.
During the protests, cases were booked at Raidurgam Police station against more than 10 students, including a few girls from the University under different charges such as, outraging the modesty of woman, rioting, nuisance, injuring person.
The complaint was lodged by Professor Prof Aziz Banu. Though a case was registered, nothing much happened after the protests were called off.
