Thousands observe Shab-e-Miraj in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Muslims in the city observed the Shab-e-Miraj (night of ascension) on Saturday. This is an important event in Islam, which occurs on the twenty-seventh of Rajjab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar.
Special religious discourses and programmes were organised at various mosques. Many mosques around the city were illuminated well on the occasion. Khateeb Mecca Masjid’s Hafeez Rizwan Qureshi said that Shab-e-Miraj is a time for Muslims to spend in prayers. “Prophet Muhammad received the honour of meeting Allah in the heavens; where he was escorted halfway by the angel Jibrael. After meeting the Creator, the Prophet was shown heaven and hell before returning to the world in time for the morning prayers,” he said, quoting several Hadith (sayings of Prophet) and Quranic verses.
To mark the occasion, thousands of people visited the historic Mecca Masjid in the Old City.
The prayers were led by Hafeez Rizwan Qureshi. Heavy turnout of devotees was witnessed at Shahi Masjid Bagh-e-Aam, Jamia Masjid, Musheerabad and other important mosques in the city.
