Hyderabad: Serilingampally MLA vented ire on Hitex and Novotel for dumping sand and debris in Hafeezpet Lake and obstructing the natural course of water flow. Hafeezpet Nala is being obstructed by hotels like Hitex and Novotel in Hitec City, leaving the cellars of low-lying residential areas inundated with sewerage water. Since the natural course of the lake is being disturbed, due to the reverse flow of water, the cellars are being flooded, and are eventually weakening the foundation of buildings and leading to the collapse of apartments.
Serilingampally MLA, Arekapudi Gandhi. who took stock of the situation said, "On one hand the government is working on the expansion of nalas by removing illegal encroachments and constructing walls to ensure safe and quick disposal of waste water, but on the other hand these organisations are trying to acquire additional land by filling up these nalas with sand and causing a lot of disruption to citizens living there.
"He further added that no one will be spared and strict measures will be taken against violators, if they encroach nalas. Hitex, Novotel and other organisations in the area are threatening the public and dictating terms to officials, said the statement. Revenue, municipal and police departments, along with the MLA, stayed till 10 pm on Friday at this location to check on the dumping in nalas. On Saturday, the GHMC personnel worked on the development of nalas without any intervention from the big companies.
