MMK: Release prisoners who've served 10 years

During the MGR birth centenary celebrations, Mr. Eddappadi Palaniswami had announced that long-term prisoners will be released.

COIMBATORE: The Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) president Jawahirullah petitioned the city police commissioner on Saturday, urging the release of Muslim prisoners who have served for more than ten years in the Coimbatore central prison.

After handing over a petition to the CoP, Jawahirullah told reporters, “we would soon file a case against the Tamil Nadu government for not releasing the sick prisoner Abudhahir, whose both kidneys are severely affected and is being treated in a private hospital.”

Following a 30-day parole, Abu was imprisoned again instead of releasing him which made his condition worse, he said, adding, if something serious
happened, the State government would be held responsible.

Despite Madras high court passing an order to release Abudhahir the state government refused to release him, which clearly showed its attitude of ignoring the court order, he said.

During the MGR birth centenary celebrations, Mr. Eddappadi Palaniswami had announced that long-term prisoners will be released, but no one was released till date, the MMK leader pointed out. So far four sick life prisoners have died inside the prison, despite demanding the state government many times on this issue, added Jawahirullah. A statewide protest would be held by his party on Sunday condemning the sexual harassment by a BJP party cadre and an MLA in Kashmir and UP respectively, he said.
