Six lakh houses for poor: Chandrababu Naidu

He said that the government's dream was to provide house for every homeless poor in the state.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the government would construct six lakh houses for poorer sections by spending Rs 16,000 crore.

Setting the foundation stone for NTR Housing Scheme for poor at Jakkampudi here on Thursday as part of Dr BR Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations, he said that the government’s dream was to provide house for every homeless poor in the state.

He said that NTR had introduced schemes for benefiting poorer sections like house, food and clothes, which are required basic amenities for everyone in the society. As part of it, Rs 2-a-kg rice, housing for poor and Janata clothes were provided at nominal cost by the TD government. He criticised the Congress government for spending only Rs 12,000 crore though it had allotted Rs 40,000 crore for it.

He alleged that the Congress government had misused funds by looting public money in the name of fake beneficiary names. Mr Naidu said that there was no evidence for 14.50 lakh houses which were shown in records by the Congress government.

Now the government increased Budget by Rs 5.50 lakh for each double-bedroom house and houses would be constructed in 400 square feet area spaciously, he added.

State Housing Corporation chairman Varla Ramaiah, ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Kimidi Mrunalini, Kollu Ravindra, MP Kesineni Srinivas, ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha, Mayor Koneru Sridhar and several officials were also present.

Besides, participating in Dr BR Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations here at convention centre, Mr Naidu said that the government would construct Ambedkar memorial park in Amaravati capital location in an area of 25 acres. The 125 feet Ambedkar statue would be built in the capital location to remember his excellent services.
