Road works in Bengaluru: Temple pillars found?

The pillars of the Hindu temple were found on Tuesday while road widening work was underway on the Ek Minar Road.

Raichur: The chance finding of pillars of a Hindu temple beneath a mosque here during road widening by the district administration has kicked off a row with pro-Hindu organisations led by the Sri Rama Sene demanding an investigation into how the land came to be occupied by the Ek Minar Masjid.

The pillars of the Hindu temple were found on Tuesday while road widening work was underway on the Ek Minar Road. The pro-Hindu groups contend that a temple may have existed on the site where the EK Minar Masjid stands today.
“The government must investigate to see whether a temple or mosque existed here first,” the outfits demanded.

Leading a procession from the Chandramouleshwara temple to the Deputy Commissioners’ office, they warned they would intensify their agitation unless the inquiry was ordered.

They also advised the district administration not to discriminate while carrying out the road widening work. “The widening should be done equally on both sides,” the outfits demanded.
