Chhattisgarh: Call to ban books with blue parrots'

The NGO has been roped in to supply the allied books free of cost.

Raipur: A body of a Chhattisgarh has sought to shun books supplied by a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) citing some silly mistakes in them such as assigning colour of a parrot as blue.

State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) responsible for designing courses of studies for the government-run primary and secondary schools in the state has recommended the education department of the Chhattisgarh government to stop prescribing allied books for weak students in the schools being supplied by a Delhi-based NGO.

The NGO has entered into agreement with Sarva Sikhya Abhiyan to supply books free of cost to the students of primary and secondary schools with an objective to honing their learning skills.

The NGO has set up libraries in 900 primary and secondary schools in the state in the outgoing financial year and planned to establish 800 more in the current year.

The state government has launched a project to improve quality of education in the primary and secondary schools. The project envisaged prescription of additional books for weak students, who score grade C and D in examinations, in addition to the books prescribed under their regular course of studies. The NGO has been roped in to supply the allied books free of cost.
