MLC poll results in north Andhra conditional to final HC verdict

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued an interim order here on Wednesday, saying the results of the biennial elections to AP Legislative Council -- especially for north Andhra region -- would be subject to its final order.

However, the counting of votes will take place in other constituencies as scheduled and results will also be announced on March 16 with an exception for north Andhra region.

This follows a petition filed by advocate Srinivasa Rao, saying that while the polling was held on March 13 for three graduates, two teachers and three local authorities MLC seats, the high court had declared a holiday that day but no holiday was declared for courts in three districts in the north Andhra Region. Hence, lawyers, petitioners and court staff could not do the voting.

After taking note, the court posted the next hearing in the case after four weeks. The petitioner was the contestant from graduates’ MLC constituency of Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam in north Andhra region.
