Summer tourism won’t be hit in Nilgiris despite elections

Even the district administration which announced the tentative dates for the five-day annual flower show and fruit show in May.

Ooty: Despite the Lok Sabha elections scheduled in April this year, organising summer related shows and summer festivals in Nilgiris faces any hitch.

While the summer festival and horticulture-related shows every weekend in May is the usual summer tourism schedule in the hills, which always would witness huge influx of tourists, it was feared that polls might affect the summer extravaganza and summer shows here.

Even the district administration which announced the tentative dates for the five-day annual flower show and fruit show in May, put on hold the fixing of dates for vegetable show, spices show and rose show.

However, the road is clear as polling will be over by April 18. As early polls has brought a big respite for the tourism stakeholders, one could assert that the hills would witness regular summer tourism activities without any interference by the poll process.
