Kochi: WC chairperson visits girl set on fire by stalker
Kochi: State Women's Commission chairperson M.C. Josephine on Thursday visited the girl, who was set on fire by teen stalker at Thiruvalla and is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Kochi. The girl, Kavitha Vijayakumar, 20, who suffered more than 50 per cent of burns is still on ventilator support. Ms. Josephine talked to the girl's parents and the hospital authorities on her condition.
"The girl's condition and the details of her family will be brought to the attention of the chief minister. Heinous incidents like acid attacks and arson cases against women are on the rise. The mental status of the youngster who stabbed and set on fire the girl is frightening," said Ms. Josephine.
She hoped that the girl can survive the shocking incident.
Kavitha Vijayakumar was attacked by Aji Rejin Mathew, 18, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the police said they would take action against a false report being circulated in social media about the health of the teenager.
"We've sought legal opinion to take action against false reports in the social media. Such Facebook accounts are being monitored," an officer said.
