Kochi: No rival in sight, Rajeev hits campaign trail

It may be recalled that he was instrumental in promoting the CPM\'s organic farming scheme during his tenure as party\'s district secretary.

KOCHI: The sweltering heat and the delay in announcing the list of candidates by the rivals UDF and BJP notwithstanding, the LDF has taken lead in the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections with its candidate P. Rajeev criss-crossing the constituency at a hectic pace.

The LDF started election conventions at assembly constituency level. Conventions have already been organised at Tripunithura, Kalamassery, and Thrikkakara.
On Thursday, Mr Rajeev toured various places in Vypeen. He asked details of the fish and organic vegetable farming at the convent compound and its marketing system during his visit to Stella Maris convent at Ponnarimangalam. It may be recalled that he was instrumental in promoting the CPM's organic farming scheme during his tenure as party's district secretary.

The candidate also visited temples, churches and other religious and community organisations along the coastal region. While talking to media during the campaign, Mr Rajeev said he is much impressed by the affection shown by voters from different sections which gave him hopes of a landslide victory.

"Ernakulam faces several serious issues including scarcity of clean air and clean water which can't be resolved immediately by an individual," he said. "But I have been working among the people and taken maximum efforts to address their issues.”

Earlier in the day, Prof. M.K. Sanu opened the LDF election committee office at Palarivattom.
