Hyderabad: School bus driver runs over toddler

At about 8 am, the van (TS 12 UB 3322) went to Sainath Colony in Injapur to pick up students.

Hyderabad: The alleged negligence of a temporary van driver hired by Lotus Lap School resulted in the death of an 18-month-old boy who was playing in front of his house at Injapur in Vanasthalipuram.

Police took the driver, Shankar, into custody and is serving notices to the management of the school, located at Turkayamjal, to produce documents to show that they have permission to operate the van.

At about 8 am, the van (TS 12 UB 3322) went to Sainath Colony in Injapur to pick up students. The bus usually stops at the beginning of the lane. On Thursday, Shankar, who had taken the job five days ago, entered the lane and was reversing.

G. Rohan Reddy, the toddler son of Saidi Reddy and Mounika Reddy, who had come out on to the road to play, was run over by the the van. He was rushed to a hospital but it was too late.

Mr. Satyanarayana Reddy, a relative, said, “The driver fled from the place but was caught later. Rohan’s mother Mounika, who is pregnant, collapsed.”

Vanasthalipuram inspector A. Venkataiah said that Shankar had been taken into custody. Rohan Reddy’s parents donated his eyes to the L.V. Prasad Eye Hospital on Thursday.
